S.W.A.T. & Demo Team

S.W.A.T. (Special Winning Attitude Team)

Students who demonstrate a strong understanding of the material and show a desire to help others will be invited to become SWAT members. SWAT members are ranked red belt and above, who dedicate their time to assisting the beginner and intermediate classes. Learning how to teach is an integral part of a martial arts student’s training.

SWAT members are rewarded for their time and effort with points which can be used to purchase equipment and apparel from Yang’s.

If you have been a student for at least three years and you are interested in becoming a S.W.A.T. member, please contact Mr. Fazzio.

Demo Team (Demonstration Team)

The Demo Team is comprised of a select group of students who represent the school. The team performs at in-house and off-site demonstrations year round.

A-Team members have been training and demonstrating for several years. One of their responsibilities is to help train the B-Team. B-Team members are lower ranked students who are chosen for their potential and trained to eventually become A-Team members.

The qualities we look for when selecting Demo Team members include: dedication to practice, humility, the ability to lead by example, and consistent attendance (each week: at least 2 regular classes and Demo Team practice).

Practices differ from regular class in that they focus more on improving fitness levels, individual skills, organization skills, synchronization within a group, and stage presence.

Practices are held on Fridays: B-Team from 4:30-5:15pm and A-Team from 5:15-6:15pm.

The Demo Team has performed for cultural organizations and events, corporations, weddings, and charity fundraisers including: ACCE (Andover Chinese Cultural Exchange), Boston Children’s Museum, China Blossom, Greenfest, Pinkerton Academy, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

If you are interested in inviting the Demo Team to perform at your event,
please contact Alex Kiesel at 978.475.2020.

Taiji (Tai Chi) instructors and senior students are also available to perform and conduct workshops.
